BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION.
The problem is that most of the
information out there is written by outsiders. In fact, even songwriters
or musicians are actually outsiders if they aren’t in the business of
placing music into film, television or commercials. Given the
extraordinary scope of the Internet, anyone can find information on
anything, but they don’t necessarily know or understand the
material enough to make it actually work in the real world.

SEB JARAKIAN’S STORY
My
name is Seb Jarakian, music supervisor and partner at Musync in San
Francisco. I help indie musicians make money with their music.
Seb Jarakian, Music Supervisor
and Partner at Musync, LLC
and Partner at Musync, LLC
When
a client comes to me, I use all my experience and knowledge of all
music genres, including acoustic, new wave, electro, industrial,
classical, hip-hop, folk, ska, shoegaze, dubstep, big band jazz, trance,
electronic and more, to fill the music demands of ad agencies, video
production companies, game developers, producers and editors.
I
also utilize our entire catalog of music at Musync, which gives me the
ability to find the exact match for a song in a major TV series (like
Ugly Betty, Damages and several HBO series), or just simple background
music for a bar fight.
One
of the reasons musicians fail, is they approach the wrong people with
the wrong music. Their excitement and lack of knowledge naiveté blunts
their ability to identify the right market and match for their music. As
a music supervisor, I constantly review 100’s of tracks every week and
have to keep in my head literally thousands of music tracks , so I’m
always prepared to meet the music needs of every client.
I’ve
been in the business for over 10 years and I’ve made a lot of mistakes
and I’ve watched musicians make mistakes. Now you can learn from those
mistakes and get your career launched without making those mistakes in
your path to making a good living in the music licensing business.
RANDY SCHROEDER’S STORY
I’m Randy Schroeder, CEO and Marketing Director of Musync. I love
helping musicians earn money from what they love to do, and my favorite
part is sending checks to musicians. Why? Because if you make money, so
do we, but without you, we have nothing!!!
Randy Schroeder, CEO, Partner
and Evengelist for Musync, LLC
and Evengelist for Musync, LLC
My
twelve year background in broadcast television production for NBC and
ABC, plus my eleven years in multimedia production for Bluewave
Communications led me see a big need to form a company designed to
connect great music with great productions. I know what it takes to
connect a musician to the right producers, directors and ad executives.
Over the years, I’ve watched the music licensing business grow and now
that sales for CDs have nearly disappeared, licensing music for film,
television, video games and radio are more viable revenue generators
than ever before.
Putting
this book together is my way of sharing all I’ve learned over the years
to take the mystery out of breaking into the business of music
licensing. It’s not nearly as difficult as it is often made to sound.
You need to speak the lingo, understand how the system works, and a
several insider techniques that we’ve carefully assembled that will make
it all happen just for you.
